How Often Should a Dental Practice Post on Social Media?

Updated October 30, 2026 · 6 min read

Short answer: 3 to 5 posts a week on Instagram and Facebook, plus a few Stories, is a good target for most dental practices. But the number matters less than one thing: doing it every week without gaps.

Here is why, and how to make it easy.

Why consistency beats volume

A new patient usually checks your Instagram or Facebook before they call. If your last post is from 7 months ago, it quietly raises questions. Is this practice still open? Do they care about details?

A feed with fresh posts every week tells them the opposite: this practice is active, modern and paying attention. That is why 3 posts every week beats 15 posts in one week and then nothing.

The platforms also tend to show your posts to more people when you post on a steady rhythm and people interact with what you share.

The recommended schedule

Instagram

  • Feed posts: 3 to 5 per week (single photos, carousels, short videos).
  • Stories: a few times a week. Behind the scenes, polls, reminders.
  • Reels: start with 1 per week if you can. Short and simple is fine.

Facebook

  • 3 to 4 posts per week. You can share the same posts as Instagram.
  • Older patients and parents are often more active here, so keep it updated.

Google Business Profile

  • 1 update per week. It shows on Google Maps when people search for a dentist nearby.

If you are starting from zero

Do not try to post every day on day one. You will burn out by week three. Start like this:

  1. Weeks 1 to 4: 3 posts a week. Education on Monday, team on Wednesday, results or fun on Friday.
  2. Month 2: add Stories 2 or 3 times a week.
  3. Month 3: add 1 short video or Reel a week.

What to post (the right mix)

  • About 40% education: answer common patient questions.
  • About 20% team and behind the scenes: show the people.
  • About 20% results and reviews: before and after (with written consent).
  • About 20% local, fun and offers: keep offers to a small share.

If every post is a discount, people scroll past. If most posts help them, they trust you when you do make an offer.

Best time to post

There is no perfect hour for every practice. A good starting point is early morning, lunchtime, or early evening on weekdays, when people check their phones. After a month, open your Instagram insights and see when your own followers are most active, then post at those times.

The real problem: time

Most practices know they should post more. The problem is who does it. The front desk is busy with patients. The dentist is busy with treatment. An agency often costs much more per month than a small practice wants to spend on social media.

So the account goes quiet, again.

Your options

  • Do it yourself: free, but it takes hours every week and is the first thing dropped on a busy day.
  • Give it to a team member: works until they get busy or leave.
  • Hire an agency: hands off, but expensive and you still review everything.
  • Use an AI team built for dentists: posts get planned, designed and published for you, at a small monthly cost.
